What is Sydney Bird Club?

Sydney Bird Club is an inclusive urban bird club geared toward beginners.

We love our city of Sydney and the website is chock-a-block with self-guided bird walks anyone can do over the course of an afternoon, a day trip or a weekend. We tell it like we see it and write only from firsthand experience listing the birds that we’ve seen ourselves. We offer holistic self-guided walks that include important details like loo locations or a great up of coffee near the walk.

Sydney Bird Club is an inclusive club, which means everyone is welcome - all genders, ages and skill levels. Our mission is to make everyone feel comfortable birding and we truly hope you find inspiration within our pages.

The club was founded in 2016 by Stephanie Chambers and Amy Ranck when they moved to Sydney from the U.S. Amy is a native Sydney-sider, but Stephanie is a native New Yorker and had to look at their guide book to confirm an Ibis on arrival (!). Amy is an excellent spotter and Stephanie is a bookworm who relishes in ID’ing.

We see birding as a social activity and the only barrier to entry is having some ears, eyes and an interest to know more. Our design and products are by Outer Island, our sister company.

All the photography is ours except where noted and we include some reviews of the equipment we use if you’re interested in learning more about the binoculars or cameras we use.

Becoming a member is completely free and when you sign-up, you’re signing up to receive our e-newsletter with tips and our latest sightings. We also do some meet-ups, so throughout Sydney, posting the details on our social media pages, so please be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

Happy birding and we hope to see you out and about!

Cheers,

Stephanie + Amy
